The Arte volume presents the new Edilingua collection, designed together with Milan-based Smack to introduce the world of Italian culture through the most important and internationally renowned characters that inhabit it.
The collection is aimed at students of level B1-B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, studying Italian as a L2/FL, and includes the following volumes:
- Art
- Dante
- Literature
- Cinema
- Fashion and design
Each volume – apart from the monographic book on Dante – is dedicated to four Italian characters, distinguished in their sector, who the “world envies us”. For example, Arte introduces us to the genius Leonardo da Vinci, the great Michelangelo Buonarroti, the eccentric Caravaggio and the passionate Bernini.
Each character is presented with a short biography, contextualised within the more important events of the period in which they lived, to then look more in depth – using the clearest and most simple language possible – at the main aspects of their thoughts or a particularly significant work.
A graphic novel, created specially by well-established artists, introduces students to an aspect of the character’s life, obviously linked to one of their works.
An activities section – created in collaboration with the Università per Stranieri in Siena – allows students to revise what they have read in a more motivating way.
The volume contains all the solutions to the activities and can also be used for independent learning.
