Features
Colori d’Italia is a book about the Italian language and culture for foreign students of advanced level (C1-C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). It introduces an innovative approach in teaching, entirely based on authentic material.
The volume is divided into eight units, each of which corresponds to a different model dedicated to a specific feeling (fear, awe, shame, love, hate, pleasure, anger, cheerfulness). Each unit is presented in diverse cultural and sociolinguistic contexts.
Its modular structure renders the volume a flexible tool, one that can be used either as a main course book or as a supplementary one. According to specific needs or interests of a class, teachers can decide the order in which chapters are being dealt with.
Colori d’Italia is completed by an Audio-CD and a blog (colori-ditalia.blogspot.com) offering audio and video material to accompany the linguistic exploration of the different topics introduced in the volume.
All units aim at: helping students to develop systematically all four language skills; to understand and to process complicated themes and contexts; to reflect at a metalinguistic level. Each unit is divided into the following five sections:
- Objectives of the unit
- Brainstorming: the general introduction of a feeling works as the macro-topic of the unit.
- Main sections: to start with there is the input section, which contains reading and listening activities introducing the various cultural themes, grammar structures and respective vocabulary. Following, there is the output section, in which students make use of the linguistic structures presented in the previous section to produce discussions on the presented cultural themes and to develop their critical thinking.
- Linguistic reflection: it allows students to reflect on linguistic structures introduced in the input.
